대서양에 인접한 남부에 위치한 포르투갈의 리아 포모사 자연 공원에서는 염부들이 수백 년 동안 전통적인 방식을 고수하면서 소금을 채취하고 있습니다.

이들은 물, 바람, 찰흙, 태양이라는 네 가지 요소를 다루는 기술로 훌륭한 소금을 채취합니다. 그에 반해 과도한 가공과 정제 과정을 거친 소금은 우리 몸에 좋지 않죠. ‘소금의 장인’으로 알려진 염부들은 연중 가장 더운 달에 15일마다 목재 갈퀴를 사용해 소금을 채취합니다.

바닷물에 존재하는 84가지 미네랄과 기타 원소를 함유한 이 화합물은 생명을 유지하는 데 필요합니다. 소금은 몸을 젊게 만들어 주며 수없이 많은 건강상 이점을 지니고 있습니다. 소금은 독소를 제거하고 질병을 예방합니다. 소금은 침 분비를 촉진하여 소화에 매우 중요한 역할을 하며, 음식물의 영양 성분을 끌어내면서 쉽게 동화되게 합니다.

소금은 의학적인 측면에서 언제나 중요한 역할을 합니다. 상처와 피부병을 치료하고, 알레르기를 완화하며, 신체의 pH 균형을 잡아주는 데 유용합니다. 미네랄이 풍부한 소금은 우리 몸이 필요한 양의 나트륨만 소화하도록 하여, 실제로 몸의 기능을 조절하는 데 도움을 줍니다. 정제되지 않은 바다 소금에서 쉽게 볼 수 있는 것과 같은 미네랄의 영양학적 가치와 풍부함을 더 이상 보완할 수 있는 영양분은 찾기 어려운 것이죠. 소듐클로라이드 단독으로는 좋은 것이 아니지만 “소금”은 좋은 것입니다.
